About Me

The first film I ever saw Robert Shaw in would have been The Sting probably, I remember my parents taking me to see it when I was seven.  Two years later, it was JAWS, I remember begging my parents the entire summer of 1975 to see it and when they finally relented in August (as they had a year earlier with the novel) and took me and my best friend to a drive-in, we screamed and buried our heads and missed about half of the movie.  I didn't really take notice of Robert Shaw until the summer of 1976, having seen the movie Swashbuckler.  As mentioned on page three of the biography section, I absolutely adored it and especially him and wrote to tell him about it.  I received what I believed to be an autographed picture from him, at least the writing on the envelope matched his autograph (see personal pics) and that is something special I will always treasure, even though I threw the picture away after his passing, along with countless pictures, a scrapbook of articles, soundtracks, books etc., having taken it very hard at such a young age.  I had only thought of him occasionally (but always fondly) since, until about three years ago when the 30th anniversary edition of JAWS was released.   Since then, I have wondered why but I think I now have the answer, this website, which I created to clear both his name as well as Mary Ure's, having read so many rumours and sensationalized stories on the internet and in biographies,  and to give their son Ian a little more recognition, if possible.  Every good intention rest assured.   In the years I've spent researching him, I feel that I've achieved something I probably never would have been able to do in reality, I almost feel that I "met" Robert Shaw.   At least I was given the opportunity in life to tell him what an amazing actor I thought he was in a letter.  I would have liked to have seen the novels he would have been writing had he lived and I seriously doubt he would have continued acting, the more I learn about the man.  I think Robert Shaw would have been quite happy to do anything but with his life, had he lived and to have lead a much quieter life with his family in Tourmakeady.  As much as all Robert Shaw fans admire his successes following JAWS, I feel that with the exception of Black Sunday, they were beneath him, demeaning to an actor of his calibre.  I do hope that this website serves to enlighten a new generation about the actor, who was so much more than just Quint.  I hope that you enjoyed reading it as I have put a lot of effort into it and it's not always easy with family, work and study.   It is for you, his fans as well and hopefully something he would have approved of.  Ironically, were he still alive today, it would not exist, as I believe he would have preferred his privacy.

I moved to Australia from Canada seven years ago to meet and then marry the love of my life after a fairytale romance. My husband and I actually met on the Internet. I had just broken off another engagement a month earlier and was bringing too much work home with me. I decided to join some friendship groups from around the world and although the replies jammed my inbox, the only one I answered was one from Australia. We became fast friends as we had so much in common, chatting away all weekend, even with the time difference and week nights as well. He had no idea what I looked like (I saw him all the while on his camera) for quite awhile, then when I sent him a picture, he didn't believe it was really me. I knew when I received 2 dozen roses on my birthday that it was taking a different turn and that flying down to meet him would be on the agenda. When I lost my job in November of 2000, it was a blessing in disguise and I was down just after Christmas. Two weeks later, my husband proposed. We now have a gorgeous but very active six year old son, the reason I have not created this website sooner. In fact, it has only been whilst we have both been sick with a nasty virus that I have had a chance to accomplish this, finally.  Our next child, another boy is due at the end of 2008.

In my spare time, I enjoy photography, (especially children, wildlife and scenery) art, movies, music, computers, web design for friends in FrontPage, writing blogs, languages, reading, whale watching, bush walking, baseball, cricket, basketball, soccer and swimming with our son, horseback riding and dining out with my family and friends. Oh and updating this website in the early hours of the morning when I receive contributions from fans, especially now that I'm suffering from third trimester insomnia.
